Halloween Written by Helen & Mark October 28, 2000
What could be scarier than a regular Halloween?? Having a Venezuelan-style Halloween...that's what!! It seems that Venezuela loves Halloween and the whole city of Coro was covered in ghouls that night...but the scariest part is trying to shop for anything to wear to a party! They don't really have fancy-dress stores and the whole thing is dependent on creative skills with plastic garbage bags, cardboard and make-up it seems. Seeing as how this country leads the world in cosmetic sales, purchasing the make-up wasn't a problem!! Apart from being able to buy wigs and rubber dangly spiders at a little spooky stand at the mall...the rest is up to you...unless you're really clever and can actually sew...which of course I can't! We were invited to Sandra's house for the party. It was an old, huge 150 year old Colonial house in Coro that had belonged to her grandmother. From the moment we entered, we thought we were at the Addams house! Cobwebs, spiders and plastic ghosts filled the open tiled courtyard on the inside of the house. The marble columns and glowing jack-o-lanters just added to the eeriness. Mark made a terrific Dracula, (I think he's missed his calling there) and I was just a black witch of sorts. Sandra the Cyber-robot, Luis the #69 Fireman, Catwoman in plastic were just some of the 'weirdo' guests at the party. Something very different...but a fun night anyway!!
btw...did I mention that OU beat the #1 team Nebraska today 34-14?? Guess who's #1 now!! :)) |
