Home To Missouri!! Friday Nov 3 - We arrived in Kansas City, MO only 20 minutes late, which is remarkable, considering the delays we had. We were met by sister Debbie and Ma Strider both excited and busting for hugs. We didn't want to stop hugging or else we would have had to feel the 40F drop in temperature that we were suddenly experiencing! It was 45F!! Practically blizzard weather to us in short sleeved t-shirts! My sister had on a sweat shirt and Mom had a light sweater and both seemed perfectly comfortable while Helen and I had chattering teeth and knocking knees as we left the airport and headed for the car. During the 20 minute drive back to Debbie’s house, I noticed Helen looking a little tense..she was of course on ‘donkey watch’..a very hard habit for her to overcome and it was at this point that I realised some ‘transition’ time may be required on this trip! We were looking forward to sleep that night after travelling all day, tomorrow would be an exciting day—Thanksgiving dinner with most of the family. Our vacation plan was to visit with Debbie and Richard for a few days and have Thanksgiving with members of the family, including my sister Connie, who was returning my beloved mustang to me (after she and her husband Chuck had kindly garaged it for me for over a year), I also wanted to show Helen the Missouri where I grew up while we were here. Places like Excelsior Springs (where I went to high school), Elkhorn (where I lived during my youth and went to primary school), Richmond (another small town) and historical Lexington so she could see the Missouri River. We would then drive on to Kidder and visit with Connie and Chuck for a few days as well, before starting our 3,000 miles of driving from Missouri to Arkansas, to Oklahoma, and Texas…uh huh (this would be an adventure since Helen doesn’t do well in a car after 5 or 6 hours)!! I guess I was about to find out! |
