The Road To Punto Fijo
The road to Punto Fijo isn't a pretty drive. The condition of the road is dreadful and dangerous as the following pics will show. Part of the trip is dirt, the other part is narrow and tarred but with steep disintergrating shoulders that could give way at any time. We try to avoid the road at night when we can or we take the highway road which is a longer distance but in much better condition. You never know when you are going to 'run into donkeys, cows, goats, people walking in the dark and even cars with no lights!

The vegetation isn't very pretty either. Large cactus jungles are everywhere..and I mean large! Some of these cactus have trunks as big as trees. The other form of vegetation is what we laughingly refer to as the 'plastic flowers'. Trash is strewn all over this peninsula and the wind just carries the plastic bags for miles until they eventually stick onto a cactus somewhere, creating a lovely colorful effect to this barren area!
